Professor Vakhtang Partsvaniya, PhD, from Caucasus University in Georgia visited our faculty
On April 27 and 29, 2026, Professor Vakhtang Partsvaniya, Ph.D., from Caucasus University in Georgia, delivered two guest lectures at our faculty. His visit was funded by the Erasmus KA 171 program. The topics were "Trade Flow Diversion, Sanctions Evasion, and the Emerging Eurasian Transit Corridors: The Case of Georgia" (which included an overview of the country's macroeconomic situation and international trade relationships) and "Sanctions as Industrial Shock: Effects on the Russian Auto Industry."
Vakhtang Partsvaniya is an expert in international trade, particularly the economic effects of sanctions. As the discussions during the lectures showed, this topic is clearly highly relevant in recent political and economic debates. His message regarding the sanctions against Russia was clear: sanctions do not stop production immediately; rather, they gradually weaken the industrial system.
Caucasus University in Tbilisi, Georgia, is one of our partner universities in the Southern Caucasus. Our institutions cooperate through student and staff exchanges. CU students and staff actively participated in the 2025 summer school.
We thank Vakhtang Partsvania for his guest lectures and hope to continue our collaboration.
